Mar 06, 2020To begin with the word failure is no more used. It is changed with injury. It can be acute or chronic. The acute one is classified into 3 parts. 1st. Prerenal=the injury is related to any thing that affects blood delivery to the kidney. Eg. Blood loss, dehydration, infection,specified types of drug overdose, heart problem, vascular problem. The 2nd one is intrinsic renal injury.=injury to the kidney cells itself. Kidney got different parts. So it can be subclassified again. Anyway the causes are- diabetes, hypertension, infection, drug overdose, autoimmune diseases, cancers, prolonged cases of prerenal injury bla bla. The third one is post renal= after the urine is produced. It is transported through a tube called ureter into bladder(kind of sac) then urethra(another tube) finally to the outside. So any blockage through this pass leads to accumulation of formed urine and renal injury. In the young hereditary causes, congenital (ppl born with only one kidney, polycystic kidney disease, ppl born with small kidney...), drug insult, tumors, large bilateral kidney stones, maybe surgical mistakes(blocking the ureters) In the old, which is most common, is secondary to diabetes, hypertension
