Apr 28, 2021The derogatory name Falasha refers to a community of Ethiopian Jews or to a member of this community, most of whom now live in Israel. The Amharic word falasha means "outsider, exile," and this name was given to the Ethiopian Jews by other Ethiopians.
Apr 28, 2021I didn't know it was derogatory? And how so? If they considered themselves as outsiders as well? Why would they go back to Israel anyways?
Apr 28, 2021It's used to refer to the Ethiopian community of Jews. They're Ethiopians of Israel decent who migrated here a thousand years ago. They live in northern Ethiopia, and they're mostly skilled in crafting. But from a few years back on wards, different 'operations' (operation moses, operation solomon, operations Joshua) have been taking place, to take them back to Israel, only a few population are left back home.

Apr 28, 2021Beta Israel (Hebrew: בֵּיתֶא יִשְׂרָאֵל, Beta Yisra'el; Ge'ez: ቤተ እስራኤል, Beta ʾƏsrāʾel, modern Bēte 'Isrā'ēl, EAE: "Betä Ǝsraʾel", "House of Israel" or "Community of Israel"[4]), also known as Ethiopian Jews (Hebrew: יְהוּדֵי אֶתְיוֹפְּיָה: Yehudey Etyopyah; Ge'ez: የኢትዮጵያ አይሁድዊ, ye-Ityoppya Ayhudi), are a Jewish community that developed and lived for centuries in the area of the Kingdom of Aksum and the Ethiopian Empire, which is currently divided between the modern-day Amhara and Tigray regions of Ethiopia.
