I want to know why is it that you have a bad representation among a certain group of society? This goes for other groups too, but i want to ask you guys for now. You asked a very complex question, one that can't be answered without the full context of past history, present actions and perspectives. Simply put Qeeroo doesn't exist. It was a hastily organized movement evolved outta 4 years (yes, it was 4 years) of protest against a government that over-reacted and murdered people in hundreds. The 1st protest started in 2006 E.C. (Ethiopian calendar, for those bigots here) and ended in 2010 (yes it has ended.) While the core issue of the protests was an unprecedented land eviction and grab from farmers by the government, over time it evolved into deeply rooted questions about opportunities, equality and oppression (just imagine if Hailemariam Desalegn opted to solve the land issue at the beginning....what cld hv been). The 1st punishment the government employed was brutal crackdown of unarmed civilians, then prohibiting the entire Oromia region from taking the national tests (ministry, matric, etc), then closing all the schools in Oromia, more brutal crackdowns and the greatest mass eviction of a single ethnic since Milosovich (google the name). In a little over 2 months 1.8 million citizens were displaced from Somali region with the assistance of the ENDF (again for the bigots, Ethiopian National Defense Force) and yes they did help in displacing those citizens. Now imagine yourselve in high school at age 15, surrounded by government forces that will kill you if they see you in pack of three, prohibited from taking the 10th grade matric, then the only place you can get education closed down, and still government forces are shooting you down if they see you outside, then you hear 1.8 million of you fellow citizens were displaced by the government and the rest of the populace doesn't care b/c you're oromo (for too long insulted as Gala, like the bigot cunt above, called a separatist just b/c of your ethnicity, etc)...now imagine that going on for 4 fucking years. Now you're 19 with no education to speak of (even a shitty ones like ours), no job prospects at all, people are more concerned with insulting you instead of understanding, and no assistance. What would you do if a guy/party/political institution comes up and paints a rosy picture of the future if you just get him/them in power? Tells you, just b/c of your ethnicity you have been oppressed, but now he/they is/are here to solve it, all you have to do is make sure he/they gets political power. Tell a story of hundred years struggle can finally be complete as long as you keep saying Qeeroo this, Qeeroo that (even though it disbanded a while back). WHAT WOULD YOU DO??? P.s. if this is "simply put", you can guess how broad the answer can be if we include the entire past history.
Jan 28, 2020Ok. Thanks for thinking about this and try to view it from the others perspective. First of all, let me say most of the things you think about Qerro is just not correct. I don't blame you for that, you are certainly trying to understand firsthand from the "Qerros". The Qerros are not all the same. Qerros in Afan Oromo just means Youngsters("Wetatoch"). It had it good side and bad side. During the protest against the TPLF regime, they have helped secure a more or less fair government instead of the old corrupt ones. I'm not saying they did it alone. I'm just saying they were a part of it. However, they were not all peaceful, not just against non-Oromos but also towards Oromos. Note that, I am an Oromo youngster who was born in 4 Kilo, Addis Ababa from an Oromo mother from Wellega and an Oromo father from Jimma. I can speak and communicate with Afan Oromo and Amharic perfectly. I have friends who both love Qerro and those who absolutely loathe them. They both have their reasons which seem valid from their point of view. I am just going to explain the Qerro supporters' side. I could boil up what the Qerros want in three main things. 1. Qerros are not special. They are being singled out for the troubles which are caused by many groups. Fano is another group just like Qerro. I know what you might be thinking, the Fanos did not do as bad, or may be even nothing bad. But believe me, whatever you think about the Qerros, they Qerros think exactly like that about the Fanos. So Sorry but, Qerros are not Special, and singling them out would push them further and make them feel like they are where they do not belong. 2. Qerros want to have Afan Oromo as Official Language of the country, besides Amharic. This is something people get wrong about Qerros and Oromos in general, we don't want everyone to speak Afan Oromo but just an additional besides Amharic. But why? Afan Oromo has the largest native language speaker not only in Ethiopia but whole of East Africa and the 4th largest in Africa. 3. Qerros don't want to kill non-Oromos. I believe we have heard thousand times that Qerros are coming for all non-Oromos. No, they are not! I have to admit there were some violent times, but it was not just against Oromos, it was against Oromos too. So those are just the black sheeps, and like I said many Oromos are killed in other regions including Amhara and I'm sure that most people think of the same think about the Fanos. 4. And what's the problem with a city having two names? Or let's just give it a new name! Like you saw in some of the answers here too, people have set their mind and they are just not trying to buy anything other than what they have already established is a fact. Please, let's not do that! Evidence before fact! Let's be logical. I want to say here that Qerros are not perfect! Okay, so all and all, I think this is the misrepresentation against Qerros. I don’t even think you read my answer, or maybe you didn’t understand, so let me try to elaborate again. 1. This is one of the answers who made me think you haven’t read it. I never said oppressed. Most nationalities were oppressed during both the Imperial regime and TPLF era. But nobody is asking for compensation. Just correction. 2. I don’t know how you consider this as Special Treatment. If this is a special treatment, it means that the Amhara people were getting special treatment until now. On what grounds did Amharic become the official language? Because if we see the numbers, Amharic doesn’t have the largest number of speakers. 29.3% of the population speaks Amharic, but 33.8% speak Afan Oromo. But 29.3% is a significant number that shouldn’t be ignored, so trying to make Afan Oromo the only official language is insane. What’s more insane is denying the largest language in the country to be the official language. Because if you believe this, what you’re actually saying is, “My language is better than you.” Or do you think there is some other criteria for choosing Amharic as the only official language? 3. Killing should never be used as a justification for another killing. Revenge Killing is just wrong, under any circumstances. Otherwise we wouldn’t need a constitution, and we could run in to anarchy. What I’m saying is there are killings in both Amhara and Oromia, and both of them should be seen equally. People are getting forced out of their homes in Amhara too, and it should also be equally relevant to the disturbance of peace in the country. Like I said, Qerros are not Special. 4. Just because you like the name Addis Ababa, it doesn’t mean everybody else does. Think about it. There are 100+ million people in the country. But this could be solved around the table and there is no need to be aggressive about this. Let’s not be selfish! To be honest, it’s people like you who thinks they know what Oromos are thinking, even more than they do who are just pushing them away. It doesn’t matter if you want to be independent or want Oromia to leave the country, if you want the killing to stop, which I hope you do, stop trying to God and say “We know your true intentions.” I’m pretty sure whatever you have in mind, it’s wrong. The country is almost failing let’s not add fuel to the flame. In short, every single thing you said is what the Qerros believe about the Fanos too. Even the true intention part. But nobody seems to know anybody’s intention. So let’s empathize and let’s prove the other side wrong by accepting each other.

Let me tell u this, I personally believe hate is a strong word and so I don’t hate anybody but I’m hearing soo many bad things about the qerros I am trying sooo hard not hate oromo ppl in general cuz that’s just not ryt but these days they just be pushing me to the brink anyway... 1. What exactly do u mean by correction? Do u think what’s happening now is correction? Let me give u an example of what I mean by special treatment. The time u guys celebrated irrecha this year for example. I clearly remember this cuz I was sooo worried about my sister’s SAT test. On oct 5th she had her SATs and y’all blocked all the main roads. She had to get a hotel near her school so she could walk. Her friends who were taking it in AAU couldn’t take the test cuz the officials said the road was closed and so they wouldn’t administer the test and because of that their WHOLE application was delayed and their futures ruined! 2. What I don’t understand is why ur having trouble moving on!! Yeah you’re a lot but Amharic has been the official language since god knows when. I don’t want u to think that I agree that the language of the Amhara ppl (Amharic) was the one that was officiated but u have to accept that it was and it’s too late to change it and almost everyone speaks it. U say u guys are 33.8 of the population but rest 66.2 already communicates with Amharic so what about them? And no one is denying anything. Let’s get this clear I’m not an Amhara or an oromo and so my opinion is not biased in any way 3. Don’t come at me with there’s also this and that in Amhara. I’m asking why u guys are doing it. I got this from cia.gov. It's not the population of the region, it number of speakers in the whole country. What does it even mean it is too late? Were there a deadline? What do you think would happen if Oromo was added as official language? What harm would it do? Holy Shit! I mean, WOW. Just WOW! 3. For whatever bad thing they did, they did something stupid, and they should be punished. Not just them but every other group who did the same thing. Can we agree on that? I share that with you, you are right no argument there. My question would be you have fought hard and you are here today, and do you think you are still opressed? If so, by whom? And if you say those groups, why generalize? And i really believe if these groups are the ones opressing you, you have all the mind and means to prove them wrong and get your freedom. Secondly, i know there are lots of haters in every group and everywhere. In my opinion you are giving your haters what they want exactly, if i am wrong please correct me.
