According to historian Paul B.henze the origin of gurages are explained by traditions of a military expedition to the south during the last years of the kingdom of axum . And according to ulrich Braukhamper, king Amde Tsion ordered Eritrean troops to be sent to mountainous regions in Gurage, which eventually became a permanent settlement .
