Hello guys i have a question for you 1, scientists say that the mass of the earth is 5.97219×10^24 but how do they know this or how does they measure it? 2, scientists also measure the distance from the earth to the nearest star and say "that star has a length of 4 ly (light years) and again how did they measure the distance?🧐🧐🧐
Jan 28, 2021For the first one The mass of earth is measured indirectly by determining other quantities such as earth's density, gravity, or gravitational constant. For the second one they use the speed of light which is 186,000 mile per second and calculate how long it will take for the light to get to earth from the star then they put it in the form of light years for example the sun light takes 8 minutes and 20 seconds to get to earth which is 97,000,000 miles (150,000,000 kms) away so they concluded as the sun is 8 light minutes away from our mother planet
