Someone's new idea/ free speech/ free expression can be another persons version of hate speech. For example I've seen homer defending the tplf, saying the Eritreans were in our country, and saying the newly freed Amhara regions belong to tigray mnamn. To me this idea is offensive to suggest we forcefully make ppl leave their identity and accept someone else's. Just like we find it offensive when/ if gay ppl displayed PDA. But to them this is completely acceptable and they also say " why r these ppl so close minded to new opinions ". To them our opinions are hate speech. So u see u can't expect people to always welcome your opinions with open arms.
