Jan 10, 2021I've seen a lot of good answers, and while we cannot finish listing the perks of being the only non-colonised country in Africa, I would like shed light on what positive things might have come from being under a colonial rule (still the pros of being free outweigh the pros of being under a colonial rule): 1. Hygiene - even for a developing country we still have one of the poorest self and public sanitation habits. Honestly, it just doesn't match with the characters of the developed nations. Remember how Europe was in its dark ages. And you can compare Eritrea with us. 2. Infrastructure - while it might not be huge, but a common theme found in the colonised countries is a good road and sewage system, adding some well built and well equipped government buildings and public service providers in the main cities. Of course the colonisers wouldn't be able to layout a huge master plan for all the country, but it would be enough to inspire and teach us on how roads, water and sewage systems should be laid. I mean just look at our roads now! 3. Scholarship privileges - students from the commonwealth have priority over the other international students to get a scholarship from their former coloniser (UK), France also does that 4. Stronger national sense - honestly, I am not sure about that, because we have cases like Rwanda, but I think the continuous oppression might have left us with a wound that would never heal in the near future, and thus we will always consider our enemies as those outside of us and not among us. God,😅 I just realised how much I have wrote. Sorry, that's what I can think of right now.
