I think first u have to ask them if they can prove it or not. And secondly don't expect just empirical evidence. logic could also prove or at least convince something. But some people are confident on beliefs that can't be proven for the simple reason that they are not smart enough to consider the truthness of the belief they just believe and don't wanna prove it or they don't even want it to be questioned. There are also some people who are look confident but don't wanna prove it bcoz they fear it may be proven wrong.
