Dec 20, 2020Medicine join lemadreg be addisu curriculum U need to have Good transcript, Good grade 12 Matrick (UEE) result, And your fresh man courses grades The above 3 things will decide, Next to that u need to ask your self is that truly your passion or from family pressure or from some doctor you see around who is well respected etc...... Unless u are passionate it is some how hard. Medicine is a 6 and half years journey. The universities that I know which gives medicine are the following : Addis Ababa Gondar Mekele Bahirdar Debretabor Debremarkos Welkite Adigrat Arsi Arbaminch Hawassa Wachamo Haremaya Jimma Jijiga Saint paul hospital millenium medical college. Med school is not easy because you need to study long hours as compared to other departments and some exams are orally. Dream it and you will achieve it dear, be strong. First thing first okay. 😊😊😊

Jan 20, 2021It was 6 year and a half but with the new freshman course it might end up being 7 year or 7 and a half year It's tough. There is too much material to cover with the stress of having exam every other 15 days or month (depending on ur uni). It makes you doubt your capability and your choice. The science itself is actually pretty interesting but the University experience is shit. When things get tough you can't go home and you only get 5 or 6 week off per year. You will miss holidays and your family. The sooner you accept it the better. you will be sleep deprived getting 4-6 hours sleep yet you feel like you are not doing enough. Most people that go into medicine thinking they will make money often regret it because with a degree you get paid under 10,000 birr. after specializing (10 or 13 year of study med school + residency) you still won't make that much money. If you love the field it will be worth it tho. I recommend checking out hakim page on Facebook for doctors experience and advice on med school
Jan 20, 2021I will give you the dark side of the story that I wish others had told me before I joined. 1) Interest matters but is not enough 2) Dont join medicine just cos you are the smart kid 3) The education system is horrible. You will experience a hateful and condescending learning environment that believes in bettering your knowledge by scaring/insulting the shit out of you and misjudging you for your personal life outside of campus. 3) The learning experience on its own is not what you would call one that pushes for a questioning mind, instead massive load of information is thrown at you and you are expected to memorize/understand it over and over again, resulting in physicians that are only book centered. 4) The most disappointing will be after you graduate and acquire a job. It's unfulfilling as you suffer under shortage of equipments, overtime, unable to help patients to the maximum of your capabilities jusg because of logistics. And that's if you find a job. There are over 1000 unemployed medical doctors right now. 5) The pay is a joke. You can't eat your passion for lunch, can you? You learn 7 years and get paid below the range of what a banker gets paid. Anyways, talk to someone around you and get more detailed info before you join.
