The story was going downhill starting from the second half of season 6, it took a Hollywood formula of not caring about the plot and massive usage of CGI,although battle of the bastards is a momentous battle that was the point where hollywood heroics took effect the show wasn't about heroics it was more about the story and the characters were actual human who could die from a stray arrow,.... but the battle of the bastards took jon snow and made him a hollywood hero.
Season 7 was not that enjoyable cause it didn't tackle the plotlines of several characters who were important, it also didn't reveal much it just took a small storyline and stretched it out for the whole season, it's portrayal of Cersei Lannister was also a classic Hollywood archetypal villain , that was just evil in the previous seasons Cersei's character was a human who had genuine human emotions. The reveal of Jon Snows lineage was a good scene though well that and Yara Greyjoy's capture was a good writing decision though the dramatic out of the blue capture of the Greyjoy ships was the writers and the directors buying into the garbage Hollywood reveals.
I would like to point out the writers mistake in Tyrion Lannister character, he was a mischievous, cunning and smart yet in the last three seasons his character displayed none of that the only trait holding him to the actual character he was in the previous seasons was his morality, they made him an empty shell of a character.
Season 8 was terrible even on a mainstream HollyWood status, lets talk about the obvious elephant in the room: the Night King's death, how did Arya Stark who was struggling to hide from the wights(it's actually the Others) in the castle get to the Night King? I have rewatched the scene and the Wights and Generals in the Night King's army were arranged in such a way so as to block any passage they blocked the passage in the thousands and yet she miraculously managed to get through, the jump height would have also been impossible because there was no ledge to make it possible. Theon's character progression was a good one though. The battle in episode three was alos unrealistic and the lighting was unbearable: the Wight's killed the the dothraki screamers in a matter of seconds yet the protagonists like Tormund, Jon,Mormont.... fought them a hundered at a time without the slightest hint of a scratch not only that but even the likes of Samwell Tarly an inexperienced steward, Jamie Lannister whose sword hand was crippled, even Danerys who has never held a weapon were able to fight and kill the Wights(remember that the Dothraki screamers were feared all over the seven kingdoms for their prowess on horse back it was even said that meeting them heado-on in the field was madness). Euron Greyjoy mysteriously appearing from nowhere to kill the dragon was also another terrible Hollywood writing infused garbage.
I could go on.
