I’ve been struggling with something in daily social situations and I want to know if others relate or understand it. When I’m in public (walking on the street, in class, or anywhere around people), I feel very uncomfortable making eye contact. Even a simple glance at someone feels strange or “wrong,” so I usually avoid looking at people’s faces completely. For example, when I’m walking toward someone, I tend to look away or act like I didn’t notice them. But at the same time, avoiding eye contact also makes me feel awkward and like I’m being rude. It becomes a cycle where I don’t know how I’m supposed to act normally. This also happens with classmates. Even with people I see regularly, I feel like there is an invisible distance between us because I’m always overthinking how I should look or behave.
