I bought a Samsung 250GB SSD from AliExpress around nehase and it arrived at Ethiopia around meskerem. Ethiopost said the package is held by customs for a long period of time and now they asked me to pay a clearance of 6,718 birr or around 43.67$ for a package I paid 25.12$ or around 4,000 birr. Are these guys serious? How does a clearance surpass the package price? I did my research btw, Ethiopian customs don't care about what you paid but they will look for the price evaluation that suits them. So a discount or coupon on AliExpress isn't considered here. But for a computer spare part and for 1 item, must I be asked to pay this outrageous clearance payment? Can you guys tell if there is a way to check if they're deliberately overcharging me?
Nov 28, 2025You know what they say, the law doesn't protect the... I mean like who doesn't know about the unfair taxing system of Ethiopia? Why would you even try to buy something that is worth more than $10 from AliExpress? It's obvious that they're gonna tax you triple the price of the item once it gets here.
