For me, it matters because I see it as a sign of faithfulness and commitment to saving that part of ourselves for marriage .... hurts when you picture her with other dude... simply i want her fresh, clean from any memory if i have to marry her.

Let me tell you my Honest Thought. When i approach a girl, i try not to check about their past unless she is Literally hoe. but if  her characters, Her story, the way She thinks makes me to doubt her, or looks like shady past i will ask about her virginity. I dont care if she said that she had, 1 Body count or ten or 5.. If her character is somehow troubled and non virgin, i will stop any relation with her. Cause most non virgins are, Either has trust issue or still love or attached with their Ex that took her v. I dont involve my self. But if i found out she is V, nothing to worry about all this. So In my Conclusion, if Her character, The way she act, the way she think and her Experience or her Friends are some how Altered and affected by Her past(Non-V) i will stop. There are some girls who are still inocent but non V, and i dont treat them different from Vs. So Her character matters!,
