People used to get into medicine to have a respected job, or to have a decent life financially. I wouldn't recommend that. It is not worth it. The medical journey, both here and abroad, is one of the most challenging journeys that you will ever face. But at least, in other countries, the pay is good. The only advantage you can get is, when you graduate, you will have a chance to be hired as early as a few weeks, especially in rural remote areas. And in those areas, where most people wouldn't go, you will have better duty pays. But generally speaking, I wouldn't advice you to get into medicine to be respected or to get money, especially in Ethiopia, because if you can invest that amount of dedication, time and energy into learning anything for four years, I am sure you can excell in it. Yes, there are rich doctors. If you open your own clinic, especially in the rural area, you can make some real money. Or you become a renowned specialist or subspecialist, you could make good money, but that requires 10+ years of education plus experience. The other thing you should consider is your interest. Are you in love with medicine? Are you madly in love with becoming a doctor? Because a simple "I want to be a doctor" will not cut it, trust me. Because I'm sure every guy wants to be fit and to have a body like Ronaldo. But nobody is dedicated enough to even try. To wake up at 11, workout for 6 hours a day, every day, for 10 years. In medicine, you will be tested. Your love has to be strong enough to get you through that. But if you really love it, go for it. Join medicine. Maybe you will be the guy/girl that will change medicine itself. It's those with love and passion for what they do that will make history. But if you love something else, go with that. And invest as much time and energy as a medical student into what you actually love, and you will not regret it. Even failure in those kinds of times would be glorious. The last thing, people talk about saving lives and serving the people. If you wanna do that as a doctor, you can join medicine. But, just so you know, a white coat is not necessary to save lives. A prime minister that cares about the health of his/her people can save more lives than a doctor. An engineer that builds better CT scans can save more lives. A law maker, that creates better health insurance and better public health policies can save more lives. You don't need a white coat to save lives, as long as you're willing. Lastly, Good luck.
