Hey. Question for Women. So as A philosophy girlie I've recently realized that I actually know close to nothing about Philosophers that happen to be women. I know, fuckin embarrassing. But let that end now and let me know of your favorite Philosophers that are Women ASAP.
Sep 15, 2025Awesome:) Here we go 1. Hypatia of Alexandria She was a brilliant mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher who taught Plato and Aristotle’s ideas. Her work was mostly destroyed after she was murdered, but she remains a symbol of women’s intellectual power. 2. Emilie du Chatelet She translated Newton’s Principia into French and explained complex physics in ways that connected science to philosophy. They tried to reduce her as only Voltaire’s partner, but she was a Fuckin' genius. 3. Margaret Cavendish She wrote imaginative works like The Blazing World to explore knowledge, science, and human understanding. People dismissed her as eccentric, yet men that talked about the same topic in a mundane ass way were called "Revolutionaries" 4. Angela Davis ( a.k.a The G.O.A.T herself) writes about race, gender, and class, blending philosophy with activism and social critique. She’s often called an activist first, but her ideas about justice and freedom are philosophically powerful. 5. Simone Weil ( the philosopher that lived her philosophy) She combined ethics, politics, and philosophy to examine oppression, labor, and moral responsibility. Her unconventional ideas were often dismissed by men to protect to protect their fragile little egos, yet they deeply influence modern political and moral thought. That, they can't do shit about. 6. G. E. M. Anscombe She straight up reshaped moral philosophy with her book Intention, analyzing deliberate versus accidental action. Male philosophers often overlooked her( act like you're surprised, it's fun) but her work is foundational in ethics and philosophy of action. 7. Iris Murdoch She blended ethics and aesthetics, arguing that paying attention to reality and beauty shapes moral virtue. Most people know her as a novelist, but her philosophical insights are profound. 8. Ifi Amadiume ( from Africa, yeah, Do women even exist in Africa? Wow) She analyzed African gender systems in Male Daughters, Female Husbands, showing Western ideas about gender aren’t universal. Her work blends ethics, social philosophy, and culture, yet it’s often dismissed as anthropology. Dismiss much dicky? 9. Judith Butler She literally introduced the idea of gender performativity in Gender Trouble, showing how society constructs identity. Some philosophers dismiss her as a cultural theorist, but her work reshaped social philosophy and ontology 10. Hannah Arendt She explored power, politics, and ethics, asking how ordinary people commit atrocities in works like The Human Condition and Eichmann in Jerusalem. Despite her philosophical depth, she was often called a historian or political theorist rather than a philosopher. Her ideas on totalitarianism, evil, and moral responsibility are now central to modern political philosophy. These will be enough to get started:))
