The Portuguese had an interest in the region from the beginning as it was a favorable place for trade, so when the Portuguese came to help the Christinan kingdom, which was requested by the Christian kingdm asking aid from the Portuguese, the Ottomans, who were already rivals with them and didn't want the Portuguese to further advance their influence, helped the Muslims. I want to add that some Ethio Jewish people were also engaging in some battles with the Christian rulers here and there during the war.
