I’m 24 and just graduated with an engineering degree. And here's the thing… I’ve never been in a relationship before. Not even once. And in the world I’m in—where most people my age have already dated, been in love, or even gone through heartbreak—it’s starting to feel like I’m behind. Almost everyone around me talks about their relationships or their past experiences, wondering what it’s like. What it feels like to have someone see you fully and choose to stay. I’ve focused so much on my studies and personal growth, but now that I’m entering a new chapter of life, I find myself craving that emotional connection. But I’m also scared. I have no experience at all, and sometimes I wonder: Is now the right time to even try? What if I mess it up? What if I’m too late or not enough?
Jul 06, 2025First of all, you’re not behind. It might seem like everyone else your age has dated, loved, and learned—but trust me, so many people quietly carry the same insecurities and questions you have. Some rush into relationships early, some wait, some stumble through it all, and some haven’t even started yet. The fact that you've focused on your studies and personal growth is not wasted time. You’ve built a foundation for your future—and emotional connection is simply the next chapter, not something you’ve missed the deadline for. Is now the right time? Only you can really answer that, but if you're craving connection and open to vulnerability, that’s a good sign you’re ready to at least explore. You don’t need to have all the experience; relationships aren't graded like engineering exams. They’re messy, imperfect, and require learning on the go—for everyone, even those with past experience. As for the fear of messing it up—that never fully goes away, even for people who’ve dated before. The best you can do is show up as your genuine self, be honest about where you’re at, and approach it with curiosity rather than pressure. And no—you’re not too late. Love doesn’t run on a fixed timeline. You are enough, exactly as you are right now. The right person won’t see your lack of experience as a flaw—they’ll see your openness and sincerity as refreshing. So, give yourself grace. It’s okay to be nervous. It’s okay to take small steps. And it’s okay to crave love while still figuring it all out.
