Is love the result of a decision or feelings? Can we make ourselves fall in love simply by choosing to? Can we turn love off at will? Do we intentionally select the qualities that make us fall in love, or is there an inexplicable force beyond our conscious mind that determines our desires—an unseen factor setting our preferences in a mysterious proportion, one so elusive that even we struggle to articulate them? Can the feeling of love defy our better judgment? Can we consciously decide to change what attracts us? And if our feelings follow our desires—desires we have no real control over—do we truly have free will? Have you ever wished you could love someone? If free will were absolute, wouldn’t we be able to love anyone we choose?
Apr 25, 2025I don’t think I’ve ever been in love, at least not the deep, all consuming kind people write poems about. And honestly, I don’t think love is something we get to choose. For me, attraction just… happens. It’s not like I sit down and pick someone based on logic or a list of traits. It’s more like a random spark that shows up uninvited. But I’ve also learned something about myself...even if I feel that spark, if the person doesn’t meet my emotional expectations, especially if they make me feel restricted or misunderstood...my feelings start disappearing faster than I expected. It’s like my heart says, “Yeah, no thanks,” and walks away without warning. So maybe I don’t control the initial pull, but I can’t fake staying interested if something feels off. About free will gn I think we have some power, just not all of it. We can’t fully choose what or who draws us in, but we can decide what we allow to grow. I’ve definitely wished I could love someone just because they seemed perfect, but if the feeling isn’t there, it just isn’t. If love were that simple, life would be a lot easier eko but maybe also a little less magical adl So yeah, love might not be logical, but I like to think that’s part of what makes it so human and a little bit wild in the best way.
