Hey, My dad built a big house in Addis Ababa and openly told me his will leaves it to me and my sister. A few years ago he planned to include his ex-girlfriend in the will too and allow her to live there for life, but they broke up. He now has a new girlfriend of nearly 3 years. He told me that under Ethiopian law, living together for 3+ years grants common-law marriage rights, allowing her to sue if they split or anything happens. To protect the house for not only him but me and my sister, he plans to legally marry her on paper for his own benefit. He said if they get married now, the only assessments that will be shared are the ones he/they make after the marriage. I suspect he isn't telling me the whole truth and I am very conflicted about what to do. I refuse to believe that she will marry him if it only/mostly benefits him. I don't know what to do and who to ask for advice on this since it is a very personal and sensitive topic.
