The usual rule is 50-30-20. 50% for your needs (Rent, Bills, Transportaion, Food) 30% for your wants (Hobbies, Eating out, …) 20% for saving. So assume you live one bed room house in the middle of Addis - 20k for rent … You cook at home for your self- 5-6k for food… internet, transportation, and other bills 5k… So your 50% comes around 30k… The 30% becomes 18k… That’s for your wants 20% you need to save becomes around 12k Add them 3… 60k per month.
Jul 28, 2026I earn something around 90k - 120k and I live alone. So I’m assuming to live a bit comfort you will need to earn the same amount as well. But it all depends on what kind of lifestyle you’re used to, the kind of house you’re looking to rent and those kinda things.
