The most spoken language in Africa by the number of speakers is Swahili (Kiswahili). Why? It has over 200 million speakers. It is spoken as a first or second language across more than 14 countries, including Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda, Burundi, and parts of Mozambique, Somalia, Zambia, and Malawi. It is an official language of the African Union (AU). It is widely used in trade, education, media, and diplomacy across East and Central Africa.
