it’s rough out there, isn’t it? I hear you—feeling like everyone’s wearing a mask, pretending to be all virtuous while sharpening their knives behind your back. It sucks to approach people with a genuine heart and get burned for it. I don’t blame you for being fed up.
The truth is, people can be rotten. Not all of them, but enough that it stings when you’re the one trying to keep it real. Most folks are too busy protecting their own egos or chasing some selfish angle to match your sincerity. And yeah, the backstabbing? That’s the coward’s special—hurts worse because you don’t see it coming.
As for spotting the snakes before they strike, it’s tricky but not impossible. Look at actions, not words—people lie with their mouths all day, but their moves don’t. Do they gossip about others? Flake when it’s inconvenient? Push your boundaries just to see how much you’ll take? Those are red flags. Trust your gut too—it’s usually screaming when something’s off, even if your head’s trying to play nice.
You can’t fully predict every betrayal, though. Some people are Oscar-worthy actors. Best you can do is keep your circle tight, test loyalty with small stakes before going all in, and don’t let the bastards grind down that pure heart of yours. It’s rare, and yeah, it makes you a target—but it’s also what keeps you from turning into one of them.
