Like sm ppl here said they have their own specific virtues and vices so ill answer ur question focusing on their influence on the country and their behavior as head of state Both have huge impact on the current map and society of modern Ethiopia Tewodros conquered very powerful regional lords which was considered almost a fantasy at that time, he achieved it n laid the foundation of modern Ethiopia Menelik as a shoan king set out to return the historically mentioned map of ancient ethiopia and build a single powerful nation, after seizing power on the grounds made fertile by tewodros he was able to shape the current map of ethiopia Tewodros was charismatic, ambitious and impulsive he was a conquerer and a brilliant fighter he won multiple wars where he was out numbered and underestimated by his enemies. He wanted to make his country the greatest place on earth and he tried so hard. he was also a mass murderer he beheaded and amputated limbs in thousands where ever he went which resulted in his downfall Menelik grew up under tewodros and he learned a lot from him, Tewodros loved him dearly he wedded his daughter to menelik. Menelik was very diplomatic and pragmatic than tewodros thus adored by many ppl and he was able to form a government that stayed till the overthrow of haileselassie. He was forgiving and considered to be a great politician by the foreigners that represented their country. He is famous for modernizing the country which he did very well even when the people, his officials and even the Itegye were protesting the modern technology and infrastructures that were entering our country. Menelik was unable to solve the issues with italia and eritrea after the battle of adwa which in process later resulted the crisis in the late 20th century some argue that it was the right decision the others say other wise Please explore further this is just a one mans opinion and I respectfully disagree with the ppl who were criticizing the question i think its abt time we learn our true history with out any association with feelings whatsoever cuz as long as we r from this country we share the same damn history and we ought to learn from it and make a better history

It is difficult to compare one person with other coz every one has its own quality. But if u actually asks my feeling. Tewodros is more lovable leader. I just read many books about him and i realise what a smart person he was.

Tewedros died early before achieving his dream which was eradicting galla grom Ethiopia,menelik on other hand let the gallas stay in ethiopia....even yohannes the 4th told menelik to send the gallas back to wherever they come from......menelik is the first king to ever consider oromos as ethiopian all other kings didn't really want them.......so i prefer tewedros for his noble vision.
