Friday lelit 6 seat akababi jemiro there was a glitch in cbe's system. When u withdraw or transfer money it wouldn't check ur account and just give u FREE money. So ppl withdrew a lot of cash through atms. Mostly university students. The problem iskahun altawekem gin one theory is, people complained so much because the cbe-birr system used to be unreliable, and error output isn’t verbose on the customer-end, so to avoid complaints they removed the error conditions for a faulty error check and thus balances were created in CBE Birr wallets while the actual money wasn’t being withdrawn back to CBE and the error went unchecked because money is essentially numbers on a screen Anyways, many accounts are currently being frozen. Since they use core-banking, i'm pretty sure they can roll-back any transactions made through mobile banking and check the logs to see who withdrew and how much. It's a matter of time before they get on top of this.
