A famous person's signature often represents a personal connection or memento for fans. It's a tangible symbol of having met or been acknowledged by someone they admire. People may "die for a signature" figuratively, not literally, because it's a way of expressing their passion or devotion. The desire for signatures can be seen as a reflection of the significance individuals attach to certain experiences or idols in their lives. It's not necessarily absurd but rather a way for people to create memorable moments and feel a sense of connection to someone they look up to. It's part of us humans inclination to seek meaning and connection in our lives, even through seemingly small acts like collecting autographs.
