1. About university choice
U should be very picky about the university u will attend. Most of them aren't worth of ur time...but it depends on ur personal situation as well. If ur parents can't afford to pay for college, then maybe u better attend uni. But my suggestion is that whatever ur situation there are universities u should avoid.
2. Field choice
Again there are fields that aren't worth of ur time. But depends of your personal situation or interests and the school u are in. Personally I don't recommend you to study courses that take longer years such as medicine and law in schools other than the following
Addis Ababa uni
A good private college, if your parents can afford it
St. Paul
Choosing field is important but don't feel like u gonna stick through it ur whole life,,,u can try different careers after graduation. But for the time being carefully consider different factors, like ur academic interest, ur school, ur personal desire and how u picture urself in the future, how u want ur life to be like, what kind of things u want to learn more about, what kind of jobs u think u might enjoy, and external factors such as that I mentioned above for example.
3. Ur degree paper isn't enough, grades aren't enough,
You need to be well rounded person because in this day and age it is such kind of person that ppl want to work with. Take online course or short courses. Don't depend on classroom lectures,,,,broaden ur knowledge source. And don't just limit urself to ur field of study. Try to get involved in other things too that gives u joy.
4. build urself as person,,,like increase ur communication skills, interaction with ppl, learn not only about ur field of study, but also about things that will make u stand out, such as learning a new language, keeping up with your hobbies,,,,,,
5. Don't be afraid to take risks. Don't worry about the set standards...u should be able to crave your own path, it may not be the same as somebody else, it may not be everyone's cup of tea,but who cares...what matters is that u are happy. I'm saying this with regard to not only career wise but also with ur relationships with ppl in ur life or social life. Don't get lost in education...there is more to life than that :)
