"The practice of writing the name of the winning team on the World Cup trophy began in 1974, during the 10th FIFA World Cup which was held in West Germany. Prior to that, the trophy was simply passed on to the winning team without any permanent marking. However, a new trophy was introduced in 1974, and it had enough space to engrave the name of the winning team and the year of their victory. Since then, the names of the winning teams and the year of their victory have been engraved on the trophy after each World Cup tournament."
