so I stayed up, crocheting for around 11 hours straight, starting from around 10:40 right when i got home from school. i was exhausted, and had finals the next week i told myself "just 20 minutes, and ill study a little then sleep. but I was struggling with the pattern, and eleh yazegn, before I knew it, and I haven't left my bed for 9 hours straight. i forced myself to get some food, then continued for two more hours. by end, i only did 1 row of the crochet bc THE ENTIRE TIME i was just untangling and starting over bc it wasn't working at all. 11 HOURS FOR NOTHING. i had final exams! and i couldn't focus for 30 mins straight for school. is this what they call hyperfocus? is there something neurotic with me that i should know? if you're a professional esp, please answer.
May 25, 2023Yes, what you described sounds like hyperfocus. Hyperfocus is a common symptom of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It is characterized by an intense and prolonged focus on a task or activity, to the exclusion of everything else. People with ADHD often find that they can hyperfocus on things that they are interested in or that they find stimulating. However, hyperfocus can also be a problem, as it can lead to people neglecting other important tasks or responsibilities. In your case, it sounds like your hyperfocus on crocheting prevented you from studying for your finals. This is a common problem for people with ADHD, and it can be very frustrating. If you are struggling with ADHD, it is important to seek professional help. There are a number of effective treatments available, including medication, therapy, and lifestyle changes. Here are some tips for managing hyperfocus: 1. Set realistic goals. When you are feeling hyperfocused, it is easy to set unrealistic goals for yourself. This can lead to disappointment and frustration. Instead, set small, achievable goals that you can focus on one at a time. 2. Take breaks. It is important to take breaks when you are feeling hyperfocused. This will help you to avoid burnout and to maintain your focus. Get up and move around, or take a few minutes to relax and clear your head. 3. Find a balance. It is important to find a balance between hyperfocusing and being able to focus on other tasks. This may take some trial and error, but it is important to find what works best for you. If you are struggling with hyperfocus, it is important to remember that you are not alone. There are many people who experience this, and there are effective treatments available. With the right help, you can learn to manage your hyperfocus and live a successful and fulfilling life.
