1. God directly created a religion and taught it to the first humans (if you're Abrahamic this means Adam and Eve) 2. God inspired humans to create a religion 3. Humans interacted with God initially and decided they needed a formal way to express their appreciation and respect 4. Humans observed the world and came up with explanations. Those explanations grew (as such stories do) into the oldest human religions. From there it became a piece of successful societies and has led through the religions evolving into what we see today.
