Resource!! That us what everyone is cutting each other's throat for. I.must say that what you claimed is a well made observation for few interconnected reasons.
1. Let us take a look at the middle east. There is chaos. Why though? Because of religion? But then again, no religion teaches a man to butcher his brother! The groups that are back bones of all that suffering have ties to the wealthiest nations . Why? The answer is resources. There is something in the middle east that is needed by the wealthy nations, oil. Couldn't they just buy it? Given that they are rich? Well, this brings us to the next point.
2. Ambition. Being ambitious is a natural state of humans, of course. But do you know what else is a natural state? Even bigger ambitions. Getting back onto what we started with, they have the money so why not just buy it? Well, spending about a tenth of the money that would be required to buy the oil onto a few extremist and terrorist groups can buy them all the oil they could possibly need, so that they could spend the spare money on other important matters. Is it not greedy? It is, at least from our point of view. How about from theirs? Oh well, not so much, really! You see to them, this is not being greedy at all. Nor is it forcing unjust distribution of resources. This is just them doing the right thing for their people, bettering their lives, persuing their bigger ambitions. We could also look at your example. The bigger Eagle is not doing that on a sole purpose of harming the little one. It is a chase after ambition, desire and need, which is only natural. Bringing it to our context. Why do we be killing each other? There has to be ambition behind it. What kind of ambition? Be it the desire of seeing blood of innocent peoples blood spilled on the grounds where they had lived, built not only their houses but their homes also, the desire of looking at the look of desperation on the faces of children who lost their moms and dads, brothers and sisters, the desire of destroying peoples dreams. All these desires that originate from a purely evil intent. Orrrrr there is some sort of financial reinforcement that comes with that price. There is a group that benifits from all that chaos. My favorite character from my favorite show once said "chaos is a ladder" and may be all that is going on is just for the simple sake of dreaming of a better future for one's own.
Concluding my overly elaborated and very very probably deviant opinion from what has been asked, Resource, although it is very well scarce, is not the only reason we are all up on each other's asses. The natural state of ambition also has a lot to do with it.
