The Name Ethiopia arose from the time of Tewdros the II. Perhaps any leader before Ethiopias modern history fails to be classified as the leader of Ethiopia cause more or less they were bounded in some regions.
In the year 1962 Tewdros was capable of leading a lot of places including shewa, Gojam and Gonder, Semen, not debub however.
Thus he could be claimed the first leader of Ethiopia.
But the first leader of a unified Ethiopia was Menelik II. With his mighty approach almost everyone, every king every soldiers feared Menelik. He was a very strategic leader. He was also thought many of his skills from his foster father Tewdors II. Yes Menelik was living the dream of tewdros. Tewdors showed him what leadership was like. He sat next to Tewdros during 'Shengo' he was always asked for council by tewdros. Which it all paid. When Tewdors died Menelik went to shewa, took 30 sth years before coronating himself.
So in all aspects Tewdors was the first leader. Even at the time of Menelik, Tewdors teaching played an integral part. Ofc the Reign of Yohannes is a time of much expansion of our territory. Like Yohannes adopted the term uncentralized power which may have weakened his power plus he was in a lot of wars. But Not like Tewdros.
