Imagine this scenario. The bible doesn't exist. In fact no religious texts exist. Nothing that describes the will of God in any way, but you know God exists. In this scenario, how would you know what God wants you to do? How would you be able to know what's right or wrong to do. Should you worship him? Should we wage war on those who don't believe? Does he even care? Is it even a he? Do gods have genders? It is said that the will of God is etched onto the hearts of men. That would mean we would innately know the right thing to do, but wouldn't that mean doing whatever we feel is right. Following your heart doesn't always lead you to the best of decisions. Your head is an even more untrustworthy thing to follow. So how do you know what God wants?
Sep 04, 2022Such a philosophical question! I appreciate you bringing this up. Even though I can't give you the perfect answer which may satisfy you, I'll try my best to share my thoughts about this. First off, thank the Lord we have the Bible. But if we didn't have it, it would've been very challenging to know Him as we do now. But anyways, knowing the will of the Lord, as you said, goes along with following our conscience. This doesn't mean what we feel is good to do is God's will. If it doesn't hurt us and other people, it would be less likely that He would stop us from doing it. The Bible also says it on Romans 7 that if there were no laws, we wouldn't even know what a sin is. But that doesn't mean we don't naturally know what's right and wrong. This is explained well in Romans 1 (if you've a Bible, please do read it) For the case of genders, gods may or may not have genders ( the small "g" is for those made by men). But the God of the universe that we worship, is addressed as He in the Bible. Jesus was a male human being. God is Spirit (John 4:24). We refer to God as our Father and not Mother. Let me be completely honest with you, idk why we do that or why the Bible does it either. But my perspective is that we use "He" for powerful and mighty beings. Even for objects, we don't treat a sinotruck and a vitz the same way. We use a feminine verb for vitz and a masculine for sinos, the reason being their power and size. "Should we worship Him?" Yes! Why not? We're His creations, He is our creator. He deserves our worship. This worship doesn't have to feel like an obligation. If a person gets into an accident for the sake of saving you from it, you'll be willing to do anything for that person. If that person was a drunk driver who almost got you into an accident and ended up injuring himself, you most probably won't be as loving towards him as the man in the first scenario. It all starts from knowing who God is and what He has done for you. The Bible says, " We love Him because He loved us". Since love is the golden rule, you'll be willing to do anything for the one you love. Your love for God results in your worship towards Him. Now that we have the Bible, the Lord has made it easier for us to know His will. I highly recommend reading the Bible every day. It might feel like doing chores at first, but gets clearer and clearer overtime and is really worth it! By: Christian ๐ 69 rep a few seconds ago
