I got a student visa to the US but for some incident my parents can no longer be able to pay the tuition for some time. Is it worth the risk to ask for an asylum? I have some relatives who can help me on my stay so is it better for me to save up some and apply for a new university, or should I just defer my class and wait till I can be able to afford it which may take forever and me losing this chance? And how long does it take to finish after asking the asylum

I'm not saying our scenarios are completely identical but been there, done that. Asylum sucked big time for me. It's a really big decision to make specially if you care about getting your education over with as soon as possible. Sorry to say this but relying on loans and relatives is also too risky. And you can't work to save money for tution to save money without a work permit which takes at least a year to get. As of me, it's generally a bad idea to go for asylum

Taking forever is unfortunately has a bit of truth it my cousin(he decided to cancel his paper and come here and they reinstated it when the money came back) was in the same situation as you and if you don't have a concrete plan for asylum, aren't afraid of being in front of a judge, have another plan in case the people in the US can't support you while in asylum and you don't end up in a homeless shelter, and waiting around 2 to roughly 5 years(it sometime takes even longer) to be granted asylum and GIVEN permanent residence and even with all that there is always a chance of being deported.
