I keep thinking about quitting med school and at same time wonder what i will be missing out if i do. Help me put things into perspective according to your experience😊
Sep 07, 2020Fellow med student here! Idk which year you're taking, but any year is hard af, med school is notoriously difficult. We were told it would be hard back in highschool too, but it's when you find yourself crying because you accidentally fell asleep at your desk at 5AM trying to finish writing an H&P for your bedside in 3 hours that you REALLY understand! That said, i don't think huge life decisions should be made based on that. It will pass, and then you'll be a doctor and if you like that life, it may be worth it to stay. If you'll hate being a doctor (or whatever else you wanna do with your degree) day to day, then maybe you should reconsider your choices! The important thing is never to make an impulsive decision. Everything in life comes with hardship, it's up to you to choose which things you wanna work hard for. Also, you family may totally fight you on it (which is the typical reaction) and if you do change fields, you may have to endure some harassment about it 😅 prep yourself for the backlash!! It's incredibly hard (and brave, even) to make decisions as tough as these, be careful not to choose based on temporary fear! Best of luck!!
