Well there are only one theory I can come up with. We are created to crave power. God created us in his own image(in Christianity at least). The term has its roots in Genesis 1:27, wherein "God created man in his own image. . ." This passage does not mean that God is in human form, but rather, that humans are in the image of God in their moral, spiritual, and intellectual nature. If you have read the bible, you will notice that God is jealous, craves worship, and even gets apocalypticly pissed when people don't obey him and in some cases he outright says that about himself. Maybe our desire for rule and power is just how we're made.
