Hi I’m muslim and the answer religiously is that if i can defend myself without killing the person I should do that but if killing the person to save my life is a necessity then it’s not a sin to kill the person and the evidence is in the Hadith « It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: A man came to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allaah, what do you think if a man comes wanting to take my property? He said: “Do not give him your property.” He said: What if he fights me? He said: “Fight him.” He said: What if he kills me? He said: “Then you will be a martyr.” He said: What if I kill him? He said: “He will be in Hell.” Narrated by Muslim (140). »

It depends for example if he wants to kill you because of your religion you habe to die happily gn for protecting your self and family in other cases may not be the case means is not sin For soliders also depends if they are in war for protecting their own country it is not sin but like we are seeing nowadays if they kill people, for invade, looting and so on it might be sin

Protecting your self has never been a sin if a person comes to kill you then you have the right to kill him supported by God and also any government in the world... And it's not a sin there are similar stories in the bible so🤷‍♂...
